  • Typical busy life

Another night another day.....life goes on....being a uni student doesn't make a difference as its morning till night classes each week day, church life on week ends. Thats y we thank God for midnight movies

Its been really hectic since the semester started, and well as we learnt in church, we need o live a balanced lifestyle, balanced between relationships, recreation, spiritual, health, career, rest and 4 other elements (kinda forgot hehe) so we need to find time to have some recreation. Myself for the past 4 semesters studying here, have not learnt to take time to relax and have some recreation, with exception for a few karaoke session with my coursemates in the 4th sem.

This semester haha went for 2 midnight movies, 1 midnight karaoke, few after noon karaoke session, few performances in klpac and well, the sem is not over yet hehe. I really learnt that entertainment is actually somehting that u have to make time for when you are really busy with other things all the time. Its not easy to find time to go have fun when ur classes start at 8am and end at 10pm, definitely by the end of it you'll be exhausted. So in order to get some entertainment..i sacrificed some sleep...well a lot of sleep actually, but its only once or twice a month, so i can catch up on the sleep on sunday afternoons ( as long as i make sure that the week i have a midnight movie is not a week with mass coaching or any other meetings :) )

Its nice to have sometime off for movies..next target..Wall-E.. haha

  • Why so serious?

Obviously, i have already watched the dark knight..nice movie probably will write something about it ..

Anyway, realized my blog was way too serious, so here's something to entertain you...nothing personal, but well its up to you to judge if what he says really makes sense

    If you wanna be happy
For the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife,
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her
    Then she starts to do
The things that will break his heart.
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life,
An ugly woman cooks her meals on time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.

    Don't let your friends say
    You have no taste,
    Go ahead and marry anyway,
    Though her face is ugly,
    Her eyes don't match,
Take it from me she's a better catch.

  • Back to the Parable of the builders

The parable of the builders, luke 6:46-49

First time i heard the message about the parable of builders, it was shared in the context of serving God. But today, an experience made me realize, actually its not only with serving or doing things for God that we can apply this knowledge, its also in our everyday lives.

As i said in the earlier post, we tend to choose the easy way out in things of life. Ever so often, when we face a hurt in life, we often choose the easy way out, which is holding a grudge against that person, instead of forgiving him. That would be equivalent to building your house on the sand.

Why is that so? Remember from the previous entry, i mentioned that in to often we forget the first verse in the parable, luke 6:46 " Why do you call me Lord,Lord and not do what i say?"
In Matthew 18:21- 35, the parable of the unmerciful servant, Peter asks Jesus "How many times should I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" and Jesus replied " I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times"

    Micah 7:18-20
Who is a God like you,
Who pardons all sins and forgives the transgressions
of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
    but delight to show mercy
    You will have compassion on us;
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

Do as the Lord commands, build you house in the rock
    Persevere!!
    Trust in Him Proverbs 3:8
Cast your burden upon Him Matthew 11: 28-30
He will be faithful to complete the work He begun in you Phillipians 1:6

  • Why persevere?

Kinda sad being the only classical guitar student on the program for two years. This year I've got a junior who's joined the programme in a quite similar situation as i am. Its kind of lonely and sad being in a foreign place, where things you're familiar with is not easily accesible (i'm talking in the musical sense here actually, both of us are more contemporary musicians suddenly placed in a place which is full of classical piano majors). Its not easy being in the place, especially when you have had dreams using your musical skills and suddenly it seems that your dreams are so out of reach, and you'll start asking " Why God? Why here?"

God has a plan for our lives. No doubts that he has given us the talents, and also the ability to dream and dream big. I like the song with the chorus that goes like this: I know my future's in your hands
All of my hopes and dreams and plans
You gave me strength to live
                                                                              And faith to succeed
I believe in you because you believed in me

Its easy to trust God when things are easy. Pastor Reuben preached on foundations. "Make sure your foundation is found on the rock".

As in the bible it says in Luke 6:46-49, parable of the wise and foolish builders.
Often we wonder why is it said that the person who builds on the rock is the wise one,  when in reality everyone knows that building in the sand is much easier than building on rock?
True its much easier, but we all know, that if its easy to set a foundation on sand, most probably its not going to be too deep, sometimes not even deep enough to sustain the building. On the other hand, to build on rock, you have no choice but to keep working and working until you find a suitable foundation to build on, which is most of the time already way deeper than that of a normal depth of the usual foundation. The worst part about building on the rock, is not the amount of work, but the frustration of seeing the person building on sand being successful.  Imagine looking over and seeing that 3 buildings are already build by the builder that built on sand, but you still haven't got your foundation up.

Most of the time we read the parable from vs 48 where the man starts building, but we often forget vs 46, Where it says " Why do you call me Lord,Lord and not do what i say?"
In life such as the situation above, we are often faces with things that kind of pull us away from our dreams..Entering a music programme can be exciting for a musician who plays in a church band, but discovering that what it teaches is totally different from what you learnt about music all your life so far can be really devastating, coz initially you thought it would be something that you'll excel in but suddenly...you feel that you're starting all over again in your music education coz what you've known previously cannot be applied.

Proverbs 3:8 another of my favorite scriptures. trust in the lord lean not on your own understanding . Its not a coincidence that you're put in that place of discouragement. Most of the time, God tells us to start building on the rock. We start of building, but then we look and see people around us building their structures, their lives easily while we're struggling to even build the foundations.

There was i time, i was totally disillusioned, as usual, i questioned "Why God, Why me, Why here?" and all i heard was a still small voice saying, "press on, don't give up, you may not understand, but trust in Me (God)". Time builds character, time buys experience, time lets you learn more about the subject that you're facing, prepares you more for the tremors of life that may come. Press on...Build your house on the rock...

  • blogging

Have been looking through many blogs.....guess coz i'm new its kinda intimidating....some guys out there have got really good ones.
I guess i'll have to refer more and also spend more time on this site to make it more interesting and all..

I was quite amazed to find that there were so many things on blogs, like last two semesters, we took subjects like music criticism, orchestration and also performance practice. I'm glad to be bale to find blogs which blog about subjects like that. Greg Sandow's articles those are things that we learn in music criticism. To think that i am one of the people who uses computers so often and do not know about it...I guess its still not too late to discover their existence :)

My sis asks me to do a music blog...probably when i've got the whole blogging thing figured out, and when i graduate and really know what i'm talking about ...but as for now...this will do :)
